Jernej Cigler

Jernej Cigler, born 22nd August 1998, started his music career at the Music School Krško, where he studied horn with prof. Drago Gradišek and prof. Matjaž Kaučič. During elementary school he participated twice in the Slovenian music competition ˝TEMSIG” and was awarded with a 2nd and a 1st prize. Furthermore, Cigler impressed the jury several times in Povoletto, and thus achieved the special award for sound and musicality.

In 2013, the young horn player decided to start at the Conservatory of Music in Maribor, where he received lessons from prof. Boris Dvoršak for the following 4 years. During that time, Cigler was able to win prizes at the “TEMSIG” and “Davorin Jenko'' competitions in Serbia.

In autumn 2023, he graduated with honours at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater München" with prof. Johannes Hinterholzer and prof. Carsten Duffin.

Cigler gave his solo debut in 2017 with the Orchestra of the Conservatory and with the Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theater Maribor. In April 2019, he presented himself also in Germany, with the 4th Mozart Horn Concerto and Kammerphilhamornie dacapo in Herkulessaal in Munich.

In October 2019, he won 1st prize and a special prize to record with Bavarian Radio at the “11. Internationaler Jan Koetsier Wettbewerb” with Raclette Quartett.

Cigler is gathering classical professional experience in renowned orchestras, such as Münchner Staatsoper, Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Camerata Salzburg, Bamberger Symphoniker, Nürnberger Symphoniker and Münchner Philharmoniker.

In the last years, he also became more involved in modern music and is currently a member of ensemble for modern music Risonanze Erranti. In June 2023 he performed, together with Natasha Lipkina, Violin, and Andreas Skouras, Piano, Ligeti Horn Trio in the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. Cigler had also attended various masterclasses from prof. Boštjan Lipovšek, prof. Radovan Vlatkovic, prof. Szabolcs Zempleni, prof. Christian Lampert and prof. Raimund Zell.
